The Harlem Hellfighters. 369th Infantry Regiment. Never Lost a Man. Never Lost a Foot of Ground.

They were denied the right to fight under the American flag — so they fought under the French tricolor instead, and they fought better than almost anyone in the war. This premium 15oz white ceramic mug honors the 369th Infantry Regiment "Harlem Hellfighters" with the regimental Coat of Arms — a tribute to one of the most celebrated and most unjustly overlooked units in American military history.

191 Days in the Trenches. The Most Decorated American Unit in WWI.

The 369th Infantry Regiment spent 191 days in continuous front-line combat — more than any other American unit in World War I. Assigned to the French Army because the US Army refused to integrate them into American divisions, the Harlem Hellfighters fought with such ferocity and distinction that France awarded the entire regiment the Croix de Guerre. Individual soldiers, including Corporal Henry Johnson, received France's highest military honor for acts of extraordinary valor. They never lost a man to capture. They never surrendered a foot of ground. The German soldiers who faced them called them the Blutlustige Schwarze Männer — the Bloodthirsty Black Men — and feared them accordingly.

A Gift for Harlem Hellfighters Descendants and Military Historians

For the descendant of a Harlem Hellfighter, the WWI historian, or anyone who believes these soldiers deserve the recognition they were denied in their own time, this Coat of Arms mug is a powerful tribute. Perfect for Black History Month, Veterans Day, WWI commemorations, military history collections, or honoring the legacy of soldiers who gave everything for a country that had not yet given them everything in return.

Unit History

The 369th Infantry Regiment, known as the Harlem Hellfighters, was an all-Black National Guard regiment from New York that served in World War I. Assigned to the French Army due to US Army segregation policies, the regiment spent 191 days in continuous front-line combat — more than any other American unit in the war. The French government awarded the entire regiment the Croix de Guerre for their valor. Individual soldiers including Corporal Henry Johnson received France's highest military honors. The regiment never lost a man to capture and never surrendered a foot of ground to the enemy.
