31st Engineer Battalion. The DUI. The Hat. The Heritage.

The 31st Engineer Combat Battalion has served the United States Army since 1940, constituted at Fort Belvoir, Virginia — the Army’s engineering center of excellence. From its redesignation as the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion on 15 December 1941 through decades of service, the battalion has carried the combat engineer mission with the precision and professionalism that defines the engineer branch.

This mug features the 31st Engineer Battalion’s Distinctive Unit Insignia in a hat graphic format — a distinctive presentation that sets it apart from the standard DUI and branch insignia versions. For the engineer soldier who wants the unit identity displayed in a different way, this is the version for your table.

About the Unit

The 31st Engineer Battalion was originally constituted as the 31st Engineer Company on 1 July 1940 and activated at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion on 15 December 1941. Combat engineers are the Army’s force multipliers — trained to fight as infantry while enabling maneuver through breaching, bridging, route clearance, and obstacle emplacement. The 31st Engineer Battalion’s lineage reflects more than eight decades of Army engineering excellence.
