About the 1st Missile Battalion, 81st Artillery
The 1st Missile Battalion, 81st Artillery was formed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1963 and subsequently deployed to McCully Barracks in Wackernheim, West Germany, serving under the 56th Field Artillery Group. Positioned on the NATO front line during the height of the Cold War, the battalion's missile systems represented a critical component of the U.S. Army's deterrence posture in Europe. Their service — often unheralded — was essential to maintaining the peace that defined the Cold War era.
They never fired a shot in anger. That was the point.
An ideal gift for 81st Artillery veterans, 1st Missile Battalion soldiers, Cold War Europe veterans, Fort Sill alumni, and Army field artillery enthusiasts.
