Third Army in Iraq โ The Mission That Defined a Generation
When the order came in 2003, Third Army / ARCENT stood up as the senior Army headquarters for the most complex land campaign since Desert Storm. From the initial invasion to the counterinsurgency surge, from training Iraqi Security Forces to the final drawdown in 2011, Third Army commanded the full spectrum of operations across Iraq.
Soldiers under ARCENT command fought in some of the most intense urban combat since Vietnam. They cleared insurgent strongholds, survived IED-laden roads, conducted thousands of combat patrols, and rebuilt a nation under fire โ all while rotating home and back again, deployment after deployment.
