The 49th Armored Division was an armored division of the Texas Army National Guard during the Cold War. It was nicknamed the "Lone Star" and was redesignated from the 36th Infantry Division after World War II. It was activated on February 24, 1947 and had its headquarters in Austin. It was called up for active duty between 1961 and 1962 during the Berlin Crisis. It had a strength of 14,854 officers, warrant officers, and enlisted men.
