The Story Behind the Patch
In September 1948, the Chief of Naval Operations established Fleet Air Wings, U.S. Atlantic Fleet — a command that would evolve through decades of Cold War patrols, maritime reconnaissance, and global deployments. Re-designated as COMPATWINGSLANT in 1973 and reestablished in Norfolk, Virginia in 1994, the command endures today as Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group (CPRG/CPRG-PAC) — a quiet force projecting American power across every ocean.
