The History Behind the Design
The Buffalo Soldiers were members of the four original African-American regiments activated by the United States Army in 1866 — the 9th and 10th Cavalry, and the 24th and 25th Infantry. Plains Indians gave them the name "buffalo soldiers" in recognition of their fierce courage and distinctive character. Their legacy lives on through the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments, still active today.
