The Spec 6 or Specialist 6 rank was part of the US Army's specialist ranks, which existed from 1955 to 1985. It was designed to provide higher pay for soldiers with technical skills without requiring them to become non-commissioned officers (NCOs). However, the Spec 6 rank was eliminated in 1985 as part of a broader restructuring that consolidated specialist ranks to primarily Spec 4 (now simply called Specialist).
