The rank "Specialist 7" (SPEC 7) in the US Army refers to the former "Master Specialist" (E-7) rank, which existed briefly in 1955. It was a type of specialist rank, above Specialist First Class, and was not a non-commissioned officer (NCO) position. The role was essentially equivalent to a Sergeant First Class (E-7). The specialist ranks were eliminated in 1948, but reintroduced in 1955 with the Master Specialist as the highest level.
