Headquartered at Fort Hood, Texas, III Corps is one of the U.S. Army's most storied combat headquarters. Activated in World War I, reactivated through World War II, and deployed to Iraq as the senior Army headquarters commanding Multi-National Corps – Iraq (MNC-I), III Corps directed combat operations across the entire theater — coordinating divisions, brigades, and tens of thousands of soldiers fighting to secure Iraq and defeat Al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The soldiers who served under III Corps in Iraq conducted some of the most complex and demanding combat operations in modern Army history. They cleared insurgent strongholds, trained Iraqi Security Forces, and adapted relentlessly against a determined enemy. Many deployed multiple times. All served with distinction.
