The 30th Infantry Division "Old Hickory" was a renowned U.S. Army unit famous for its heavy combat in World War I and World War II. Nicknamed after President Andrew Jackson, the division was noted for its exceptional performance in the European Theater, including breaching the Hindenburg Line in WWI and fighting for 282 continuous days in WWII. Its combat record earned it the title of the best infantry division in the European Theater from Army historian S.L.A. Marshall. The division's lineage and honors are carried by the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team of the North Carolina National Guard, which continues its proud legacy of service.
