The 504th Infantry Regiment, originally known as the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment (504th PIR), has a distinguished history in the United States Army. Formed in mid-1942 during World War II, the regiment saw service in various significant locations, including Sicily, Italy, Anzio, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The regiment's first constitution occurred on February 24, 1942, and it was activated on May 1, 1942, at Fort Benning, Georgia. The regiment was initially assigned to the U.S. Army Airborne Command and later became part of the 82nd Airborne Division. The regiment's history is marked by its active service in multiple conflicts and its role as a strategic reserve during critical periods such as Korea, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam.
