The 14th Cavalry Regiment in the US Army has a history intertwined with campaigns in the Philippines, specifically the Jolo and Mindanao campaigns against Moro insurgents from 1903 to 1906. The regiment's crest features a Moro "kris" knife, symbolizing the close-quarters combat in this period. The 14th Cavalry was involved in over forty engagements and skirmishes during the Philippine Insurrection. The regiment was issued the Krag rifle during this time.
