The 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), now the 502nd Infantry Regiment, is a key component of the 101st Airborne Division, known as the "Screaming Eagles". Activated in 1942 during World War II, the 502nd PIR played a significant role in the division's combat operations in Europe. Post-war, the regiment transitioned to an air assault unit and has continued to serve in various conflicts, including Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Iraq and Afghanistan.
