The 25th Infantry Regiment, a "Buffalo Soldier" unit, was stationed at Fort Missoula, Montana, from 1888 to 1898. This all-black regiment, comprised of soldiers commanded by white officers, was well-regarded by the local community, who often attended their lively Sunday concerts. The regiment gained fame for its courage during the Indian Wars and its participation in the Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War, and World War II.
