The 25th Infantry Regiment, a "Buffalo Soldier" unit, was stationed at Fort Missoula, Montana, from 1888 to 1898. This regiment, one of the segregated African American units in the US Army, played a significant role in the American West, including participating in the Indian Wars and testing the feasibility of bicycle transportation.
