The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) ("Screaming Eagles") is a light infantry division of the United States Army specializing in air assault operations. It can plan, coordinate, and execute brigade-sized air assault operations within one period of darkness, up to 500 nautical miles behind enemy lines, to seize key terrain for up to 14 days. The division has been active in counterterrorism and foreign internal defense operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria as part of Operation Inherent Resolve.
