Unit History
VA-52 was established as Reserve Fighter Squadron VF-884 on 1 November 1949 and called to active duty on 20 July 1950. Redesignated VF-144 in 1953 and VA-52 in 1959, the squadron earned the Knight Riders nickname around 1960 — a callsign that defined a generation of Naval aviators. VA-52 was honorably decommissioned on 31 March 1995 after 45 years of distinguished service.
