Unit History
Established on 15 May 1942 as the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and converted to full active duty status on 1 July 1943, the WAC served with distinction across theaters of war and through the Cold War decades. Under the leadership of its first director, Colonel Oveta Culp Hobby, WAC members broke barriers in intelligence, communications, and logistics. The corps was integrated into the regular Army on 20 October 1978 — a milestone that recognized what these women had always known: they were soldiers.
