The 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, part of the 1st Cavalry Division, saw extensive combat in Vietnam, notably at the Battle of Ia Drang in 1965 where they faced North Vietnamese regulars for the first time. The 1st Cavalry Division became the first fully airmobile division in the US Army, using helicopters to rapidly deploy troops across Vietnam and fighting in major campaigns including the Tet Offensive and the invasion of Cambodia. Soldiers in the 1st Bn, 7th Cav received numerous honors, including Medals of Honor, for their actions.
