Unit Heritage
Constituted 12 November 1942 as the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment and activated 23 February 1943 at Camp Mackall, NC — the 187th trained as both glider and parachute troops under the 11th Airborne Division. They staged at Camp Stoneman, California before departing the San Francisco Port of Embarkation on 6 May 1944, bound for the Pacific Theater.
