Unit History
Activated in 1966 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the 1st Battalion, 83rd Field Artillery Regiment deployed to Vietnam in October of that year. Operating across the III and I Corps tactical zones, the battalion provided critical fire support throughout the conflict before standing down in 1971. Their service — often unsung — helped shape the outcome of engagements across the country.
