Unit History
Activated in 1943 on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Negro Troop Policies, the 555th Parachute Infantry Company was constituted on February 25, 1943 — and grew into a full battalion. Known as "The Triple Nickles," they were the U.S. Army's first all-Black parachute unit, a testament to excellence under adversity. Their story is one of the most remarkable chapters in American military heritage.
