Honor the Triple Nickles — America's First Black Airborne Unit

Unit History

The 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion — nicknamed The Triple Nickles — was the United States Army's first all-Black airborne unit, activated on 25 February 1943 under the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Negro Troop Policies. Approved by Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall, the unit stands as a defining chapter in American military history and the story of Black service members who served with distinction despite the barriers of their era.
