Launching from the deck of the USS Hornet — a feat many said couldn’t be done — the Army Air Corps Doolittle Raiders struck Tokyo and four other Japanese cities, delivering a message heard around the world: America fights back.
The raid caused minimal physical damage but an immeasurable psychological impact. It shattered the myth of Japanese invincibility, lifted Allied morale at one of its darkest hours, and altered the course of the Pacific War. All 80 men who flew that day are legends.
