Activated in 1942, the Black Panthers became the first African-American armored unit to enter combat in WWII. Fighting under General Patton's Third Army, they pushed through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Austria for 183 consecutive days — participating in the Battle of the Bulge, liberating concentration camps, and driving into the heart of Nazi Germany.
Their valor earned a Presidential Unit Citation, multiple individual decorations, and — in 1997 — the Medal of Honor for Staff Sergeant Ruben Rivers, awarded posthumously for extraordinary heroism.
