The 72nd Signal Battalion served as the communications backbone of the 5th Signal Command and USA STRATCOM EUR, headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany. During the Cold War, these soldiers kept the lines open — ensuring that critical command and control communications flowed across Europe at a moment's notice. Their mission was invisible to most, but without it, nothing moved.
