The 5th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment was activated on May 17, 2022, at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. This squadron is part of the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade and is tasked with providing permanent reconnaissance support to U.S. forces in South Korea. The squadron consists of approximately 500 soldiers and operates 24 AH-64E Apache helicopters along with RQ-7B Shadow unmanned aircraft systems for reconnaissance and surveillance.
