Unit History
The 17th Cavalry Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, following the Pancho Villa Expedition. The 5th Squadron served as part of the 2nd Infantry Division (2nd ID) at Camp Pelham, South Korea — a forward-deployed unit standing watch on the Korean Peninsula.
