Unit History
The 17th Cavalry Regiment is a historical organization within the United States Army that began as a regiment of cavalry after the Pancho Villa Expedition. Constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, the regiment carries an unbroken lineage through the U.S. Army Regimental System. Today, the 17th Cavalry Regiment lives on within the Army's Combat Aviation Brigades — its squadrons now serving as attack/recon helicopter units, carrying the legacy forward.
Awarded the Korea Defense Service Medal (KDSM) — this design honors the service and sacrifice of those who stood watch on the Korean Peninsula at Camp Stanley.
