UNIT HISTORY
The 17th Cavalry Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, following the Pancho Villa Expedition. Today, the regiment's squadrons serve within Combat Aviation Brigades across the U.S. Army, carrying on the legacy of the 17th Cavalry as attack/recon helicopter units. The 5th Squadron's association with Camp Garry Owen in Korea represents a chapter of Cold War readiness and enduring cavalry heritage.
