Unit History
Originally formed on September 14, 1942, as the 56th Coast Artillery Brigade, the 56th Artillery Command served as the Force Field Artillery Headquarters for U.S. Army Europe and Africa — synchronizing, integrating, and controlling fires and effects across the theater. Reorganized and redesignated multiple times throughout its service, the unit was inactivated on June 30, 1991, following the reunification of Germany and the close of the Cold War. A silent stand-down after decades of silent vigilance.
