Unit History
The 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment was first organized in 1917 as a railway gun unit, serving in that role through World War II until 1943, when it was broken into separate railway gun battalions. In 1944, those units were reorganized and redesignated as field artillery, and the regiment has since evolved into one of the Army’s premier air defense artillery organizations — defending the force from aerial threats across multiple eras of modern warfare.
