Unit History
The 7th Engineer Brigade was activated at Fort Belvoir in 1948. Beginning in 1951, redesignated as the 7th Engineer Aviation Brigade, it was responsible for all U.S. aviation construction in France, Germany, and Italy. From 1956, renamed back to the 7th Engineer Brigade, the unit managed NATO construction projects throughout Western Europe — helping rebuild a continent shattered by World War II and fortifying the alliance that would ultimately win the Cold War. The 503rd Engineer Company, serving under the 563rd Engineer Battalion at Ludendorff, Germany, was part of that enduring mission.
