Unit History
The 44th Signal Battalion was redesignated on 1 August 1966, allotted to the Regular Army, and activated in Vietnam. It was inactivated on 1 March 1970 in Vietnam, then reactivated on 17 March 1972 before being inactivated again on 3 June 1972 at Oakland, California upon returning to the United States. Throughout its service in Vietnam, the battalion's 31M Signal Support Systems Specialists were essential to maintaining the command and control infrastructure that kept American forces connected across the battlefield.
