The 442nd Infantry Regiment, also known as the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, was a U.S. Army unit composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry, known as Nisei. Organized in 1943, the regiment fought in the European Theater during World War II, including campaigns in Italy, southern France, and Germany. It is remembered as the most decorated unit in U.S. military history.
