Unit History

Organized on March 23, 1943, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team answered a call for volunteers — and over 12,000 Nisei (second-generation Japanese Americans) stepped forward. Fighting in Italy, southern France, and Germany, they earned more decorations than any unit in U.S. Army history. Their motto: "Go for Broke."
