Unit history and mission
The 3rd Military Police Group (Criminal Investigation Division), headquartered in Fort Gillem, Georgia, supports commanders by conducting criminal investigations of serious, sensitive, or special-interest matters; preventing crime; and preserving the force and Army resources in peacetime, combat, and contingency operations throughout the group’s area of operations.
As of 2010, the group consisted of four battalions located at Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Fort Myer, Virginia, as well as the only airborne battalion in CID at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
