Rock of the Marne | 3rd Infantry Division
"Nous Resterons La" — We Shall Remain Here.
When the tide of the Second Battle of the Marne turned and surrounding units fell back, the 3rd Infantry Division stood firm. The 38th Infantry Regiment — anchored by Colonel Ulysses G. McAlexander's unyielding defense — held its ground and earned one of the most legendary nicknames in American military history: The Rock of the Marne.
Major General Joseph T. Dickman's rallying cry became more than a battlefield command — it became a promise etched into the legacy of every soldier who served beneath the 3rd ID's colors.
Wear that legacy.
