Unit History
The 502nd Infantry Regiment was established shortly after U.S. entry into World War II and assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, one of the most decorated formations in U.S. Army history. The regiment saw substantial action in the European Theater — including the D-Day airborne assault, the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, and the drive into the Eagle’s Nest. Inactivated in 1945, the regiment reactivated in 1956 and has continued to serve with distinction, earning its hard reputation as the Widowmakers through generations of elite infantry service.
