31st Engineer Battalion History
The 31st Engineer Battalion was first organized on July 1, 1940, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as the 31st Engineer Company (Combat). On December 15, 1941, it was reorganized, expanded, and redesignated as the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion. On April 29, 1942, it became the 31st Engineer Combat Regiment. On March 22, 1943, the regiment was divided: its Headquarters Company became Headquarters, 1114th Engineer Combat Group, while its 1st and 2nd Battalions became the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion and the 241st Engineer Combat Battalion, respectively.
