About the Unit
The 31st Engineer Battalion traces its origins to the 31st Engineer Company (Combat), organized on July 1, 1940, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It was redesignated the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion in December 1941 and the 31st Engineer Combat Regiment in April 1942. In March 1943, the regiment was divided, with its 1st Battalion becoming the 31st Engineer Combat Battalion.
