Unit Lineage
The 1st Cavalry traces its roots to the United States Regiment of Dragoons. Company B was constituted on 2 March 1833 in the Regular Army and organized on 29 July 1833 at Sackett's Harbor, New York. It was redesignated on 15 May 1836 as Company B, 1st Regiment of Dragoons, and on 3 August 1861 as Company B, 1st Cavalry, when its dragoons officially became troopers. On 16 January 1933, the troopers of Company B, 1st Cavalry (Mechanized) traded their horses for tracked vehicles, a heritage of mounted service carried forward by the 2nd Squadron.
