The 3rd Cavalry Regiment, formerly 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Brave Rifles") is a regiment of the United States Army currently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
The 3rd Cavalry Regiment is one of the oldest and most distinguished cavalry regiments in the U.S. Army, with a lineage dating back to 1846. The regiment earned its nickname "Brave Rifles" during the Mexican-American War when General Winfield Scott proclaimed "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in fire and blood and have come out steel!" This proud nickname has defined the regiment ever since.
