About the 5th Military Police Battalion
The 5th Military Police Battalion traces its lineage to 1992 as the successor to the 283rd MP Battalion. By 1994 it had become an independent formation under the First Army, and between 2002 and 2006 absorbed personnel and equipment from the 55th, 37th, and 12th MP Battalions before being reestablished to its current structure in 2006. Military Police soldiers perform a broad and demanding mission — maintaining law and order, preventing and investigating crime, operating confinement facilities, and engaging as infantry when the mission demands it.
