Collection: Haiti Interventions

Haiti Interventions

The United States conducted multiple military interventions in Haiti across the 20th century, each shaped by distinct geopolitical pressures, humanitarian concerns, and strategic interests in the Caribbean.

The Occupation (1915–1934)

The longest and most significant U.S. military presence in Haiti, the occupation was driven by political instability, debt concerns, and fears of European influence. U.S. Marines administered the country for nearly two decades, leaving a complex and contested legacy.

Later Interventions

Subsequent U.S. military operations in Haiti — including actions in 1994 and 2004 — reflected evolving American foreign policy priorities, from restoring democratic governance to stabilizing a nation in crisis.

The Soldiers

Through each intervention, American service members carried out their orders under difficult conditions — navigating unfamiliar terrain, complex civil-military dynamics, and the weight of history. MIP Brand honors their service.
