Tropic Lightning. Operation Attleboro. Vietnam.
The 25th Infantry Division — “Tropic Lightning” is one of the most storied divisions in the United States Army, activated on 1 October 1941 in Hawaii and based at Schofield Barracks. From WWII to Korea, Vietnam, and beyond, Tropic Lightning soldiers have fought in some of the most demanding environments on earth — jungle, mountain, and Pacific terrain that tests the limits of human endurance.
Operation Attleboro (September–November 1966) was one of the largest U.S. operations of the Vietnam War, involving the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division in intense combat operations in Tây Ninh Province against North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces — a defining moment for Tropic Lightning in Vietnam.
