Kentucky's Armored Shield. Cold War Ready.

From the Louisville Legion of 1839 to the Cold War front lines of the 20th century, the 149th Armor Brigade, Kentucky Army National Guard carries one of the longest and proudest lineages in American military history. This premium 15oz white ceramic mug honors the Cold War veterans who served under this storied brigade — featuring the unit insignia alongside the Cold War Service ribbon.

A Brigade Built on Generations of Service

The 149th's roots run deep in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Constituted in 1839, mustered into federal service during the Mexican-American War, reorganized through the Civil War era, and called again in World War I — by the time the Cold War came, this brigade had already proven itself across generations. The soldiers who served during the Cold War era added their chapter to that unbroken legacy.

Unit History

The 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (formerly 149th Armor Brigade) is a unit of the Kentucky Army National Guard, headquartered at Richmond, Kentucky. Constituted on January 21, 1839 as the Louisville Legion, the unit mustered into federal service during the Mexican-American War in May 1846, reorganized in 1851, and was redesignated as the Kentucky National Guard in 1912. It mustered into federal service again at Fort Thomas in February 1917 and has continued to serve through every major era of American military history.
