USMC — 1st Battalion, 8th Marines

Beirut Barracks Bombing · October 23, 1983

We came in peace.

On October 23, 1983, a suicide bomber drove a truck laden with explosives into the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The blast killed 241 American service members — the deadliest single-day loss for the U.S. Marine Corps since the Battle of Iwo Jima. The 1st Battalion, 8th Marines were among those who answered the call, deployed as part of the Multinational Force in Lebanon during one of the most volatile periods of the Cold War.

This sweatshirt honors their sacrifice, their service, and the standard they upheld under impossible circumstances.
