ARVN Rangers — The Tip of the Spear
The Vietnamese Rangers (Biệt Động Quân) were the elite light infantry of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam — trained alongside American Special Forces and U.S. Army Ranger advisors to operate deep behind enemy lines. They were the force South Vietnam called upon when the mission demanded speed, precision, and resolve.
From counter-insurgency sweeps through the Central Highlands to conventional combat operations during Vietnamization, the ARVN Rangers evolved from a reactive strike force into one of the most battle-tested units of the Vietnam War. When the Civilian Irregular Defense Group program transferred to MACV, it was the Rangers who manned the remote border outposts — the last line of defense in some of the war's most contested terrain.
